Good to know

  • Not VAT-registered in France (franchise en base)? The invoice must say "TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI". TheInvoiceAI adds this from your VAT status in Settings.
  • Add the late-payment wording once in Settings as your default notes, and it appears on each new invoice.
  • France is moving business-to-business invoices between French companies to e-invoicing. TheInvoiceAI makes PDF invoices and isn't a certified e-invoicing platform, so if you're based in France, check what applies to you.

Questions

Will the whole invoice be in French?

The labels, dates, numbers, emails and reminders are in French. Your own line descriptions stay as you wrote them, so write those in French too.

What's the difference between HT and TTC?

HT (hors taxes) is the price before VAT. TTC (toutes taxes comprises) is the price including VAT. French invoices show both, with the VAT in between.

Do I charge French VAT to a client in France?

It depends on where you're based and whether the client is a business. Cross-border business services are often reverse charge. Check with an accountant if you're not sure.

How do my clients pay me?

They pay you directly, using the payment details on your invoice. Pay links from your own Stripe account are coming soon. TheInvoiceAI is invoicing software, not a payment service: we never hold, process or transmit your money, and we take no fee.
